What is Creators for Climate?
Creators for Climate is an initiative that focusses on building the bridge between the scientific community and the creative arts. By bringing those two worlds together we hope to expand the reach of work being done about climate change, sustainability and conservation. Ultimately this comes down to two things: Science communication and teaching this generation of experts how to share their work on the social media. We call for you, creators and experts!
How can I help out as a creator?
The best thing you can do as a creator is to start making buzz about this initiative. The larger our community, the more impact we will have. You can tag @creatorsforclimate and #creatorsforclimate in your work so we can find you! What we are looking for are creators with a moral compass like no other and are open to create together in social media campaigns sharing the work of our experts. Make connections and teach our fellow scientists what you know. We’re going to need every voice we have.
Why communicate science on social media?
When communicating a message, the audience should always be the main focus. To get your message out there, you need to be where the audience is situated. This is a key concept of marketing, that sometimes is overlooked in Science Communication. With the rise of smartphone technology and personal computing, we have the power of social networks in our pocket. Consumers spend hours online every day, regardless of our presence. Simply put, we need to be where the other people are. And that’s where your efforts will matter.
Why science communication?
In everyday life we need accurate, unbiased information to make well-informed decisions about our environment, health and even politics. For this information we look at scientists from all disciplines. The importance however lays into the translation of these complex theories and information into bitesized pieces of content that people from all backgrounds can understand. This is where online Science Communication enters the picture.
How can I help out as a scientist?
Start! That’s it. We need our scientists and experts to not be afraid to speak up and share their work and ideas with the world. What’s next for Creators for Climate?
We still have a long way to go, that’s for sure. For now we are focussing on producing science communication resources that can help you improve your skills. We will be talking with other scientific communicators as well as top creators to learn their secrets and see how you can implement these tools in your own communication efforts.
